Think Progressive.
Think Matala.
Matala's patented four-density filter media changed pond filtration for good — capturing heavy solids and polishing fine particles in a single progressive flow. Explore the full Matala system at Mystic Koi.
One flow. Four densities. Crystal-clear water.
Instead of clogging a single fine pad, Matala media steps water through progressively finer layers — coarse media traps the big stuff up front so finer media can polish without blocking. The result is more capacity, longer service intervals, and superb biological surface area. Click a layer to explore.
How much Matala media do you need?
A simple starting point using Matala's own rule of thumb — roughly 1 to 4 full sheets per 1,000 gallons depending on fish load. The heavier the fish load, the more media you need.
Guideline only — multi-chamber koi systems and very heavy loads may need more. We're happy to size it with you.

Manufacturer ratings (Matala). Koi-pond rating ≈ half the general rating — koi need more UV dose per gallon. Cross-brand clarify-vs-sterilize view lives in the full comparison.
