Momotaro Bacteria House Media (10 kg Box)
Genuine Momotaro Bacteria House ceramic media from Japan
Bacteria House is the ceramic bio-media developed at Momotaro Koi Farm in Niigata and used in the original Bakki Shower. Each stick is a ceramic blend fired at roughly 1,300 °C for about 60 hours, which leaves a very porous body with a huge surface area for nitrifying bacteria to colonize.
Why koi keepers use it
- Heavy biological capacity: the porous ceramic gives bacteria far more surface area than smooth plastic media.
- Fast recovery: colonies re-establish quickly after power interruptions or pond treatments.
- Traps fine solids: fine particles tend to settle onto the rough surface, helping water clarity.
- Doesn't break down: fired ceramic holds its shape for years with proper care.
How to use it
- Best in a Bakki Shower or trickle tower where water showers over the media.
- Also works submerged in a filter chamber, as long as the chamber is well aerated.
- Can be used on its own or alongside your existing media.
Specs
- Weight: 10 kg (22 lbs) per box
- Approx. 8–10 sticks per box, each about 3" diameter × 15" long
- Sticks can be broken or cut into smaller pieces to fit your filter
Note: this ceramic is brittle. Some sticks may arrive chipped or broken in transit — this does not affect performance, since the media is often broken up for use anyway.
