We left on the 13th, which was a Thursday. I’m settled in, the best I can with some instant noodles and a beer, Saturday morning. It’s 12:43 a.m. and Shawn is already snoring. I know this because were sharing a room tonight. Which makes the already small Tokyo hotel rooms very small with two people confided inside. Our flight landed a little later than expected so we missed the last Shinkansen train (bullet train) to Nagaoka. Forced into this temporary living situation I made a small walk down to the local market and picked up some snacks and beverages. Tokyo is very quiet at night for being one of the largest cities in the world, but there were defiantly people out and about enjoying the late night ramen and yakiniku restaurants. The smells are very distinct in certain areas and the taxis make for soothing background noise while walking around at midnight. It’s easy to forget that you’re in a completely different part of the world.

Side by side beds!

Tomorrow we plan on getting an early start and catching the bullet train to Niigata, Nagaoka and spending the whole day viewing koi. I’m not too certain as to where we’ll be headed, but that’s kind of the joy of being here. We come and wander around looking at all these beautiful fish buying a few and enjoying the overall culture. I’m excited to be here and to be doing a day by day blog again.

Till next time,

Ryan
